Petition To Save Dad Who Faces Prison After Treating Daughter's Cancer With Cannabis Oil

By 00:46:00

A father from Australia is facing prison time after he gave his daughter cannabis oil to ease her pain from cancer.

Adam Koessler, from Cairns resorted to giving two-year-old Rumer Rose the alternative treatment in an effort to treat her neuroblastoma, which has left her with just a 50% chance of survival.

However, he was arrested earlier this month and charged with supplying dangerous drugs to a person under 16-years-old. Koessler has said how much his child's condition improved after he first gave her the oil.

Her cancer-ridden little body was alive again – Rumer had almost instant quality of life. She would say 'Daddy, tummy’s not sore' and she would be able to eat like a champion and began to gain weight. Her energy was up and she wanted to go outside with me instead of lay on her back with her legs curled up. Her skin colour came back, her eyes were sparkling again and we just looked at each other in complete amazement.

The conditions of his bail have meant that he's not even allowed to visit Rumer in hospital anymore who is said to be now having seizures after no longer taking the cannabinoid based oil.

More than 30,000 people have now signed a petition on www.change.org asking for Queensland premier to intervene in the case. It reads:

"It is inhumane and unjust to keep a parent, who acted out of love for his child, wanting to prolong her life, away from her during such severe illness.

Aside from the excruciating cruelty of eliminating his parental rights set down on his bail conditions, this decision is contrary to what is already known and well documented with respect to the benefits of medical grade cannabis oil.

Adam Koessler deserves to have his parental rights to see his child reinstated, the charges against him dismissed by a court, and the right to decide the treatment options for his own child."

Several campaign groups have been trying to get governments to consider making cannabis based medicine legal. The UK's first cannabinoid treatment is set to be offered on the NHS with people hopeful it should cause legislation to be reconsidered.
